You would normally associate that title with Chelsea snapping up a new young player but not this time my friends. This is the news Andre Villas-boas is set to become the new Chelsea manager at the tender age of 33. I had to check the birthdays of a few of the Chelsea players this morning as I thought we may have the interesting scenario of a player being older than the manager but it is not to be (Drogba and Lampard come very close though).
I don’t know much about Villa-Boas but i have seen the stats and they don’t lie, some of his fantastic achievements in such a short time include –
- · Being the youngest ever manager to win the UEFA Europa league
- · Achieving the most wins in European competition in one season by a Portuguese club (14)
- · The highest number of consecutive wins in the Portuguese league (16)
- · Only the second team to win the Portuguese championship without losing
- · Winning the treble in his first season at Porto
Like I said those stats don’t lie and stats like that in your first season soon make Jose look like the ordinary one, I really have a strong feeling that this is the man to make Chelsea a real contender again but time will tell, Baz says this is gonna be a good appointment though
While where on the subject here’s a trivia question too (no prizes for the winner but lots of pride)
Who is the youngest ever manager to manage in the English football league?
